PRISM Celebrates 50th Birthday!

PRISM is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The Golden Valley nonprofit began in 1970 as a small collective effort of concerned citizens to address the needs of the local community. What began as informal potlucks has grown into an innovative food shelf and thriving thrift shop in addition to other social efforts.

Now in its 50th year, PRISM continues serving families facing homelessness and food insecurity. Over the years, they have been growing partnerships within the community to keep the mission alive.

PRISM Executive Director Michelle Ness says the organization plans to keep adapting and adjusting to the needs of the community. PRISM provides the best they can in food, housing, and clothing.

“PRISM is 50 years old now. We’re so proud of this,” said Ness.

The organization welcomes volunteers and recurring donations to support their programs. Cash donations and gently used items can also be dropped off during business hours at Shop for Change.

“This place runs on volunteers. If we didn’t have volunteers, I don’t know what we would do because we have so much to do in here,” said volunteer Colleen Porter.
