As the federal government shutdown continues, local food shelves are receiving increased demand for emergency food and funding. To help meet that need, the Golden Valley City Council approved a $25,000 donation to PRISM, the City’s local food shelf and long-time community partner.
These funds will help PRISM continue providing food to Golden Valley residents and others in the area who are affected by delays in federally funded nutritional benefits such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP).
This one-time donation was authorized Nov 5, 2025 from unrestricted City funds. It will not affect other parts of City operations and aligns with Minnesota Statute 465.039, which allows cities to grant funds to local food shelves.
