PRISM loses $7,500 from power outage

A food shelf lost $7,500 when the power went out earlier this month. According to PRISM, located 1220 Zane Ave N., Golden Valley, a downed power line caused their electricity to stop working. The Shop for Change thrift store was closed on Sept. 20, and many foods spoiled.

“Without power to our walk-in refrigerator,” a spokesperson for the nonprofit shared. “We had to discard 2,667 pounds of food, including 54 cases of milk, eggs, produce, tofu, deli items and baked goods. While our freezer held strong, the impact on our perishable inventory was heartbreaking, especially knowing how vital these items are to the families we serve.”

The power has since returned, and PRISM noted they are asking for donations to replace the lost inventory. They might also be looking at buying a generator for the future.
